The Night of the Murdered Soviet Yiddish Writers

Many Yiddish writers, activists and scholars fell victim to Stalin’s persecutions. Often imprisoned for years, some of the greatest literary talents of their generation where murdered on the night from the 12th to the 13th of August 1952, among them Peretz Markish, David Hofstein, Itzik Feffer, Leib Kvitko and David Bergelson.
Yiddish Summer Weimar wants to present the works, fate and legacy of the murdered Soviet Yiddish Poets in a night of remembrance and celebration through a creative outburst including music and new Yiddish song, reading and recitations, lectures and introductions, new artistic expressions such as calligraphy, fine arts and film.
This amazing event is presented by the most extraordinary all-star cast of Yiddish creativity and scholarship.
